"TE, Undercut Opera" - Spectacular Event at Grič Tunnel to End Music Biennale Zagreb

By 25 April 2017

The Music Biennale Zagreb is an international festival of contemporary music founded in 1961.

Every other year in April the festival transforms Zagreb into a place to be for all musicians and music lovers. The Biennale is completely dedicated to new music - including the "living classics" of contemporary music and the new generation of composers from all over the world.

The Music Biennale puts an emphasis on tolerance and a high standard of musical production, creativity and reproduction.

This year’s edition takes place April 22 – 29 at various locations around Zagreb, including Croatian Music Institute, Churches, Zagreb Puppet Theatre, Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, Museum of Arts and Crafts, and it will end in the most spectacular (and maybe slightly unexpected) location – the Grič Tunnel, with a performance of TE, undercut opera by Antiphonus Vocal Ensemble.

You may remember Antiphonus from here and their multitalented vocalist Ana from her Meet the People feature here.

As you can see from our cover photo, the ensemble is getting ready for the event - an opera which is not an opera; a vocal installation transforming into a performance; the audience bringing the light in and becoming the light. The spectacular event will also mark the closing of the ceremony, and the fact that it will be performed no fewer than three times goes to show just how unique this event will be.
