Hajduk Hopes to Break 20 Year Old Record: Can Poljud See 54K Spectators in Next Three Games?

By 16 April 2018

Can Hajduk draw 54,000 fans to Poljud for their next three home games?

On Hajduk's Instagram profile this afternoon, a photograph of Toma Bašić and Josip Juranović appeared holding a small sign with the number 54. The photo’s caption read, “Can we get 54?”

Možemo li do 5️⃣4️⃣❓ #54

If you were unsure about the ambiguous meaning behind the symbolic number, don’t fret - you were not alone. Luckily, we did find out what this marketing ploy is all about, and we think this is something all of us in Split can stand behind.

5️⃣4️⃣‼️ Možemo li❓❓❤️?

After inspecting the attendance of Hajduk’s games at Poljud this season, it was easy enough to conclude that Hajduk is just baby steps away from breaking their previous record for the average number of spectators at Poljud. Precisely, in the Croatian First League (HNL) in the 1998/99 season, Hajduk recorded 11875 viewers per game. To set a new record for our boys in white, 54,000 fans will have to support the last three home games played at Poljud this season. It is also important to note that at the time the current record was set, there were no counters - the number of viewers was measured by an approximate method

Even though HNS penalized Hajduk by closing the north stands of the stadium for the match against Cibalia this week does not mitigate Hajduk's chances of breaking the record. This HNS penalty has further mobilized Hajduk fans, and if Cibalia fails against Hajduk this Wednesday, the eternal derby against Dinamo could see a sold-out Poljud.

We embark on this new record-breaking journey this Wednesday, April 16th against Cibalia at Poljud for the 30th round of the Croatian First League. The game will begin at 20:00. Four days later, Željko Kopić’s players will welcome Dinamo at Poljud in the ‘Eternal Derby’, however, the focus is now exclusively on the Vinkovci duel.

Since Hajduk will play against Cibalia without the presence of spectators in the north stands, all subscribers who have season tickets will be able to enjoy the east entrance of the stadium. A unique ticket price is available for all other stands at just 10 kuna. All viewers are invited to fill the eastern, western and southern tribunes as much as possible and thus provide unrivaled support for Hajduk to secure another three new points.
