Parliament to Debate Istanbul Convention Ratification

ZAGREB, April 11, 2018 – The parliament will debate the ratification of the Istanbul Convention on Wednesday. Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Tuesday evening commented on the Croatian Bishops' Conference's (HBK) opposition to the ratification of the Istanbul Convention and its call on members of the parliament to vote against the ratification of the document whose content the HBK claims raises numerous doubts and uncertainties.

Plenković Comments on Rift with Close Associate

ZAGREB, April 8, 2018 - Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Saturday that he expected the party's political secretary to be the party leader and secretary-general's first associate and to do that job in line with the HDZ's policies, as the position of a party official was one of a team player.

ZAGREB, April 7, 2018 - Prime Minister and HDZ party leader Andrej Plenković said on Friday that the selection of the head of the Expert Task Force to implement the curricular reform was not a topic over which to outvote one another, but that rather a solution should be sought that would enable the continuation of the education reform.

Zagreb Archdiocese Supports Istanbul Convention Protest

ZAGREB, March 25, 2018 - The Zagreb Archdiocese said on Sunday that yesterday's protest in the capital against the ratification of the Istanbul Convention was a contribution to genuine dialogue between state officials and citizens, and that citizens rightfully believed the ratification of the "contentious document" would introduce in Croatia's legal system and social processes the "unscientific and, above all, harmful gender ideology."
