Ministers Respond to Vukovar Mayor's Criticism

ZAGREB, September 9, 2018 - Justice Minister Dražen Bošnjaković on Saturday responded to criticism from Vukovar mayor Ivan Penava over unsolved war crimes and the war missing, saying his ministry neither prosecuted nor made decisions but created conditions so the justice system could do a better job.

Vukovar Mayor to Organise Protest against Lack of War Crimes Prosecution

ZAGREB, September 8, 2018 - Vukovar Mayor Ivan Penava called on Saturday on all the residents of the easternmost town and the whole Croatian public to take part in a peaceful protest in Vukovar on October 13, against what he called the shameful silence of Croatian institutions. "I want the protest to be peaceful, apolitical, without party insignia, for the affirmation of fundamental human rights," he told reporters.

Croatia and Serbia to Focus on Missing Persons Issue

ZAGREB, September 4, 2018 - Croatia and Serbia must do all they can to make progress in dealing with the issue of missing persons from the 1991-1995 war in Croatia, and that will be the basis for future good relations between the two nations, the Croatian president's commissioner for missing persons and mayor of the eastern town of Osijek, Ivan Vrkić, said on Tuesday.

Croatia Looking for 2,525 Missing Persons

ZAGREB, August 30, 2018 - Croatia is looking for 2,525 persons, including 1,922 unsolved cases dating back to the Homeland War, it was said on Thursday on the occasion of International Day of the Disappeared, with President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović saying this was a "big unsolved life, humanitarian and political problem."

Serbia Commemorates Operation Storm Anniversary

ZAGREB, August 5, 2018 - A day before the 23rd anniversary of Operation Storm, a joint Croatian military and police operation that ended a Serb armed rebellion in August 1995 and restored Croatian sovereignty over occupied central and southern parts of the country, enabling peaceful reintegration of eastern Croatia in January 1998, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić paid his respects to the Serb victims, saying the Operation Storm was motivated by hatred towards Serbs and that strong Serbia would never again allow another Storm.
