Hajduk and Villarreal to Meet in Europa Conference League Play-off!

August 10, 2022 - Hajduk and Villarreal will meet in the Europa Conference League play-off! Hajduk advanced past Vitoria in the 3rd qualifying round with a 3:2 aggregate on Wednesday in Portugal.

Vitoria and Hajduk met in the second leg of the Conference League 3rd-round qualifiers. Several thousand members of Hajduk fan group Torcida were in attendance.

Hajduk came to Dom Afonso Henriques stadium with a two-goal advantage after defeating Vitoria 3:1 in the first match at Poljud. Recall, the away goal rule is no longer in force.

"We have a plan that we want to implement. We have to have the same approach as in the home game. I am sure that Vitoria will play a different match than the one in Split; I believe that they are a better team than what they showed at Poljud," said coach Valdas Dambrauskas before the match.

Lineups

Vitoria Guimaraes: Varela, Miguel, Amaro, Mumin, Ogawa, Andre Almeida, Pains, Tiago Silva, Lameiras, Anderson, Antonin

Hajduk:
Kalinić, Mikanović, Simić, Elez, Melnjak, Vuković, Grgić, Krovinović, Sahiti, Livaja, Čolina

Live match report

Vitoria had a dangerous free kick just outside the box in the 2nd minute, which was cleared by the Hajduk defense.

Just two minutes later, the worst-case scenario happened for Hajduk - Ogawa dribbled up the left wing and found Anderson alone at the top of the box. The Brazilian footballer brilliantly scored with his back to the goal, finding the upper right corner of Kalinic's goal for 1:0 in the 5th minute.

Hajduk had their first attack of the match in the 11th minute when Grgic flew up the left wing but crossed into the Vitoria defense.

Hajduk played nervously when in possession and could not connect more than a few passes at a time. Vitoria's pressure did not stop, and there were a few close calls in the next 10 minutes of play. Hajduk's defense was tested.

Hajduk continued playing unsuccessful long balls from the back, and by the 22nd minute, Vitoria had 8 attacks compared to Hajduk's 3.

Hajduk's best chance of the match came in the 23rd minute - Sahiti received the ball in the midfield and played a flawless ball through the Vitoria defense to Colina, who was one-on-one with the Vitoria keeper. Colina chipped the keeper and just went over the goal post.

Hajduk, at least, had stabilized their play. Much better than what we saw in the first part of the match.

Another chance for Hajduk came in the 26th minute. Krovinovic crossed to Colina whose header went over the goal.

Anderson tried to surprise Kalinic by shooting from 30 meters in the 30th minute, but the Hajduk keeper defended without any problems.

Another close call for Hajduk came a few minutes later in front of Kalinic's goal, but the ball luckily couldn't reach Anderson in the box.

Colina sent the ball into the box in the 38th minute, which was cleared by the Vitoria defense.

Hajduk had another chance in the 44th minute, but Sahiti was called offside. The match erupted into a mini brawl after the Vitoria keeper forcefully picked Sahiti up from the pitch. Vukovic ran over in Sahiti's defense, and Tiago Silva slapped Sahiti in the head, which the ref failed to see. There is no VAR in Conference League, and if there was, it could have easily been a red card for Silva. Instead, the ref gave Silva, Varela, and Vukovic yellow cards.

The match was 1:0 going into the half.

The second half started with one sub for Hajduk - Borevkovic came on for Simic, who has a yellow card.

Vitoria's first chance came in the 46th minute, which was cleared out for a Vitoria throw-in.

Vitoria had a free kick in the 52nd minute, which fortunately went out for a goal kick. One minute later, Jota nutmegged Hajduk's defense to find Anderson at the top of the box. His shot was blocked by Elez and went out for a corner.

Hajduk had a free kick in the 57th minute, which was cleared by the Vitoria defense, and the next play was a corner or Hajduk. Krovinovic crossed into the Vitoria keeper's hands.

Elez blocked Anderson's attempt a minute later, going out for a Vitoria corner, and was deflected out for another corner.

Colina was subbed off for Biuk in the 62nd minute.

Hajduk's best chance of the second half came in the 69th minute - Biuk crossed into the box from the left wing, which was a second too quick for Livaja.

Hajduk had a quick counter in the 70th minute after a few dangerous Vitorira attacks.

Jota shot near post in the 72nd minute.

Dambrauskas decided to play defensively from the 73rd minute, adding an extra stopper. Awaziem came on for Sahiti.

Good news for Hajduk came in the 78th minute - Tiago Silva was shown his second yellow card and sent off, forcing Vitoria to play with a man down for the remainder of the match.

Krovinovic shot at the keeper in the 83rd minute and Jota had a chance for Vitoria in the next play.

Mikanovic and Vukovic were subbed off for Lovrencsics and Atanasov in the 86th minute.

Biuk had a shot on goal in the 88th minute but hit near post and was ultimately called offside. Four minutes of stoppage time were added. Vitoria had a corner in the final seconds, but could not score.

Hajduk thus advanced to the Conference League play-off against Villarreal!

Post-match interview

Hajduk coach Valdas Dambrauskas said that they expected a tough game.

"We didn't have the control we wanted in the first half; the second half was better. We are happy that we passed, but I am not the happiest coach because of how we played, but I am happy that we passed," he said.

"We knew the match would be difficult. We have experienced players, but we don't have an experienced team. This group of players is playing together in Europe for the first time. Vitoria is a good, young team."

Villarreal is next

"This club has tradition, history, and great victories in the past. We don't go to Spain to take pictures with Villarreal players and post them on Instagram. Let's go there and compete; I believe we are not without chances.

Before that, Hajduk will face Dinamo.

"We are Hajduk; we are playing the biggest derby on Saturday. We have 23 players who are registered; I believe that every player will be looking forward to the next game. I think that now is a very good time to be a Hajduk player, first Dinamo, and then playing in Spain."

Marko Livaja Extends Hajduk Contract Until 2027!

July 15, 2022 - Marko Livaja, Hajduk's #10 and the top scorer of SuperSport HNL last season, has extended his contract with Hajduk until the summer of 2027.

The news, which delighted Hajduk's numerous fans, was announced by Hajduk President Lukša Jakobušić in front of the packed stands on Vukovarska Street in Split, where the Torcida Cup is being played, a legendary tournament that has been played in the city for several decades, announced Hajduk

"Thank you for coming, for following us. You're probably wondering who's coming. This transfer window will be a little different. It will be more of a challenge to retain these exceptional people than to bring someone in. Just an hour ago, we signed a five-year contract with Marko Livaja," said president Lukša Jakobušić.

"Thank you for the great response. I am proud to be part of this team and happy to extend my contract. I hope the next season will be even more successful than the last," said Marko Livaja from the pitch.

Marko received a well-deserved standing ovation and applause from his teammates, the coaching staff led by coach Valdas Dambrauskas and the audience; in a symbolic place, he showed how much Hajduk means to him, i.e., how much emotion he has towards the club and the fans who show him love and respect every day.

"Numerous well-deserved eulogies have been written about the achievements, statistics, records, moves, and games on the pitch of Hajduk's #10, and his contribution will indeed remain registered in the history of the Club alongside the greatest greats. On and off the field.

Love and loyalty to your Club and fans cannot be compared to anything. Marko once again showed his greatness and will lead his team on the way to new successes. We wish him many more happy moments. Congratulations!" concluded Hajduk.

The official presentation of Marko Livaja's contract extension will take place on Friday, July 15 at Poljud starting at 2 pm.

May 1, 2022 -  Hajduk and Shakhtar Donetsk played a humanitarian friendly match at Poljud on Sunday under the theme 'Football for Peace'.

The goal of the match is to raise funds to help orphaned children in war-torn Ukraine who now need accommodation in Croatia.

Tickets were 30 kuna while a donation line is also open to call until May 15. The number is 0609006. A call center was set up at Poljud's White Salon on Sunday, where many celebrities answered the phones, from athletes to actors, singers, current first-team players, veterans, and members of the club's Management Board. A special guest is UEFA President Alexander Ceferin.

Hajduk's new home jersey was also officially presented for the first time at the friendly match.

Since this is a humanitarian meeting aimed at raising funds to help orphans in war-torn Ukraine, Hajduk put the first 12 jerseys up for auction, and all funds will be donated to the humanitarian action.

The club will publish two jerseys from Hajduk's first-team players every day on the club's official Facebook page. Before the match, HRT spoke to Hajduk president Lukša Jakobušić and former Croatia national team captain and Shakhtar legend Darijo Srna.

"I would like to immediately thank the President of Hajduk for this great gesture. I never dreamed we would play this kind of game today. However, it is life, we have to deal with it, and we have to fight it. Many thanks to them, many thanks to the fans, Croatia, Split, Dalmatia. This is a great honor for us and once again a huge thank you to Hajduk. Two months ago, when I talked to the president he said ‘Darijo, send all the children, we will take them all. We’ve been through it all, we know what it means to help at this point. Believe me, me personally, my club, and the whole of Ukraine will never forget this from Hajduk," said the former Vatreni captain and the legend of the Split club. Srna is the current sports director of Shakhtar.

"In our DNA is defiance of the powerful and protection of the weak. We in this area know what trouble is, we know what war is and the least we can do is help. We help as much as we can, we know what Darijo did for Croatia and Hajduk. Out of respect for him and the children, we will try to help them at least a little," said Jakobušić.

May 1, 2022 - A new eco fabric Hajduk home jersey has been revealed for the 2022/2023 season, made of 100% recycled plastics!

HNK Hajduk Split and technical sponsor Macron presented the new home jersey the first team will wear in the 2022/23 season. The new set especially expresses the technological and stylistic innovation that characterizes this Italian brand and sets the direction in which production will take place in the future. In addition, the front of the jersey is made of a unique eco-technological fabric, which follows "Body mapping," and the jersey itself has perforations (holes) in places where athletes sweat the most while creating a special visual effect reminiscent of armor.

With all these details, the new home jersey comes with a knitted collar and sleeve edges with red and blue lines that represent the Club's tradition, and on the back, on the collar, there is a sewn inscription "Hajduk lives forever." Furthermore, on the front of the jersey, on the right side, there is the silicone logo Macron Hero, while on the left side, over the heart, is the silicone HNK Hajduk coat of arms.

The home kit is complemented by newly designed blue shorts and blue socks. The shorts have red details on the back and the silicone logo Macron Hero and the coat of arms of HNK Hajduk on the front, while the socks come with white details and the inscription "Hajduk" in white.

Team Captains Name Marko Livaja Best Footballer in Croatian First League

December 21, 2021 - Marko Livaja is officially the best footballer in the Croatian First League (HNL)!

In a selection chosen by the Croatian Frist League captains, the Hajduk striker received 20 more points than Josip Drmić from Rijeka.

1. Marko Livaja - 76 points
2. Josip Drmić - 56 points
3. Bruno Petković - 50 points
4. Arijan Ademi - 30 points
5. Petar Bočkaj, Luka Ivanušec, Ivica Ivušić, Marin Jakoliš, Ramon Mierez - all 10 points each

"This is also one big motive for me. I want to thank the captains who voted for me, my teammates because without them, this award would certainly not have taken place, then the president, the director, and everyone at the Club. I hope that we will all continue on this path and that next year will be even more successful. We still have room for improvement, our preparations will be good, and I believe that we will be even better in the continuation of the championship. Finally, I want to dedicate the award to my family, who is always by my side," Livaja said after being awarded the trophy.

The award was presented to Marko in the Hajduk Salon at Poljud by Silvijo Škrlec, a journalist from Tportal, and the initiator of this traditional election, which has been held for 19 years.

The Hajduk striker is the first from the Split club to win the best player award since 2003, while Arijan Ademi won the title last season. In the past, names like Niko Kranjčar and Marija Mandžukić also had this honor.

The importance of Marko Livaja for Hajduk is much greater than the 17 goals and seven assists he has recorded in just 22 games this season. In the history of the HNL, several players created an advantage on their own - Luka Modrić and Niko Kranjčar did it with their play, Eduardo da Silva with a brutal goal-scoring performance. However, no one has ever put all the segments together like Hajduk's Livaja.

ŽNK Hajduk Women's Team Newest to Join Famous Split Club!

August 26, 2021 - HNK Hajduk formally introduced its women's team on Wednesday, ŽNK Hajduk!

In the White Salon at Poljud, a contract on business and technical cooperation was signed with ŽNK Marjan, which will change its name and become ŽNK Hajduk, announced the Split club.

The contract was signed by the HNK Hajduk Management Board President Lukša Jakobušić and the President of ŽNK Marjan Matea Bešlić. In this way, Hajduk is involved in modern European trends by monitoring the development of European football following the UEFA strategy.

The ŽNK Hajduk first team will start competing in mid-September, and the main sponsor of the first team is the company "SuperSport," whose logo will be featured on the front of the jersey. Players Matea Granić, Lucija Mudrinić, Ana Bakalar, Karla Jonjić and Anja Prskalo, and Hajduk's first-team players Stipe Biuk and Marin Ljubičić participated in signing the business-technical cooperation.

"At the beginning of our mandate, we mentioned establishing a women's team as one of the goals. For almost a year, we scanned the situation in women's football in Croatia and Split. We spoke to ŽNK Split and ŽNK Marjan, and we are glad that today we decided on this business-technical cooperation, which was signed for a year plus two more potential years. I hope that in three years, ŽNK Hajduk will become an integral part of the Hajduk family. Until then, we as a Club will provide them with logistical support; they will get our visibility and huge marketing potential. They will continue to work as an association. The goal for this season is to enter the first league, and next year, with the strength of Hajduk they will fight for the top. Better said, the goal is everything that Hajduk strives for, and that is to fight for titles in all teams," said Lukša Jakobušić.

"This is a historic moment for women's football in Split, but I also believe in Croatia because our biggest club gets its own women's team. I think that this will be a signpost for everyone else in Croatia in which direction to go. So far, our cooperation has been, I would say, on a friendly basis, and from now on, we will be an equal part of Hajduk. We will proudly wear the Hajduk jersey. I am convinced that quality results in the coming period will not be lacking. Thanks to President Jakobušić for recognizing a partner in Marjan, who will give Hajduk something more," said Matea Bešlić, the youngest president of a football club in Croatia.

The Hajduk women's team already has over a hundred girls who train diligently. Seniors will compete in the 2nd HNLŽ, cadets and pioneers in the United Croatian League, and beginners in the Dalmatian League. In mid-September, a football school for girls will start at Poljud, and the interest will certainly be exceptional.

"We have the quality to step forward; the playing staff is outstanding, we are one of the youngest teams in the league, but extremely talented. Under the name Hajduk, in addition to better working conditions, we will also get recognition. ŽNK Hajduk will be a source of pride for everyone who has Hajduk at heart," said the 24-year-old coach of ŽNK Marjan Tamara Benković, the youngest senior coach of a team in Croatian women's football who Josip Pirić will assist, an experienced coach, who founded ŽNK Marjan in 2003.
