ZAGREB, July 18, 2018 - Croatian State Assets Minister Goran Marić said on Wednesday that building a national football stadium was necessary and that this must be done as soon as possible.

"Building a national stadium is not only realistic, it is necessary. It must be done as soon as possible and, if serious efforts are invested, the stadium could be completed in three years at the latest," Marić said before the government session.

Asked if controversial pop singer Marko Perković Thompson should have been on the bus with the national football squad on their drive from the airport to downtown Zagreb, Marić said, "Of course, the players invited him."

Agriculture Minister Tomislav Tolušić said that the success of the Croatian national squad at the World Cup in Russia should encourage optimism and unity in Croatia.

"We need optimism, we need unity, and what the team has given us proves that Croatia can be united and that together we can head to the right direction, Tolušić said ahead of the government session on Wednesday.
