Igor Tudor New Coach of Udinese, Third Croatian Coach Ever in Serie A!

By 25 April 2018

Igor Tudor is the new trainer of Udinese!

Croatian football expert Igor Tudor (40) is the new coach of the Italian Serie A side Udinese. The Italian club confirmed the news on its official social networks and presented Tudor as the new coach on Tuesday at 18:30 on Udinese.tv, the club's TV channel, reports Gol.hr on April 24, 2018.

Tudor will replace Massimo Oddo, who was sacked after losing 2:1 on Sunday. This was the 11th consecutive defeat of Udinese who is in 15th place four rounds before the end of the championship. Udinese currently has 33 points on the Serie A table, which is four more than SPAL in the relegation zone. The Croatian coach will lead the team which features two young Croatian players, Andrija Balić and Stipe Perica.

Udinese is a great club, and there are many interesting young players in the squad. I believe I can achieve good things here. There was a good feeling between myself and the club right from the outset. I've always admired this club's professionalism and the way they work with coaches,” said Tudor on Udinese's Twitter. “Every coach tries to put a bit of himself into the team. I hope to show something positive straight away, starting on Sunday. We have a difficult job to do in these last four games. We must pick ourselves up immediately so that we can kick on with renewed energy next season.”

Former Croatian national team representative Igor Tudor has many years of experience in Italy, and from 1998 to 2005, he was a member of Juventus and played for Siena. Udinese will be the fifth club Tudor has managed in his coaching career.

Tudor began his coaching career at Hajduk Split, with whom he won the Croatian Cup in 2013. Tudor left Poljud in February 2015, then led PAOK in Greece and the top Turkish clubs Karabukspor and Galatasaray. Tudor went from his coaching position at Galatasaray last December, though leading such a prestigious club was undoubtedly an excellent leap to his new role in the Serie A.

Tudor has thus become only the third Croatian coach of a football side in Serie A. The legendary Tomislav Ivić ran Avellino in the 1985/1986 season, and Ivan Jurić recently managed Genoa for two seasons.
