Croatia to Open Embassy in South Korea

By 30 April 2018

ZAGREB, April 30, 2018 - Croatia hopes to open an embassy in Seoul soon, which would facilitate connections between businesses and speed up communication between the two countries, Deputy Parliament Speaker Željko Reiner said during a visit to South Korea on Monday.

Trade between Croatia and South Korea increased by as much as 257 percent in 2017 compared with the previous year, Reiner said during a meeting with his host, Deputy Parliament Speaker Park Joo-sun, according to a press release from the Croatian Parliament.

The problem is a huge trade deficit on the Croatian side, but Reiner said he saw a possibility for further improvement of economic relations in Korean investments in key Croatian projects, especially in transport, infrastructure and energy. Reiner said that the Croatian government was simplifying the legal framework to improve the investment climate and remove administrative barriers.

Reiner and Park agreed that bilateral relations were excellent, with Park noting that Korean tourists saw Croatia as a desirable travel destination and that Croatia was becoming increasingly interesting for further investment.

The two officials also discussed the historic summit meeting of the presidents of the two Koreas in the demilitarised zone on Friday, the press release said.
