Number of University Students Declines

ZAGREB, August 5, 2018 - Over 900 fewer students are studying at higher education institutions in Croatia this year than last, while the proportion of female students has continued to increase, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (DZS).

The data shows that 159,430 students were enrolled in the winter term of the academic year 2017/2018, which is 931 fewer compared to the academic year 2016/2017.

The proportion of female students increased by 0.3 percent to 57 percent, continuing the upward trend.

Of the total number of students enrolled, 80.6 percent were enrolled in universities, 13.8 percent in polytechnics, 4.2 percent in schools of professional higher education, and 1.4 percent in art academies, which is in keeping with the trends in previous years. 72.7 percent of the students were enrolled full time and 27.3 percent part time. Most of the full-time students (84.6 percent) were enrolled in universities, 10.2 percent in polytechnics, 3.3 percent in schools of professional higher education, and 1.9 percent in art academies.
