By 4 March 2017

The monument will allegedly be visible from Italy.

Mayor of Primošten Stipe Petrina and his associates met recently with representatives of Italian project Cammini Lauretani, which wants to connect Marian shrines in Europe and other parts of the world. During their stay in Primošten, the Italian representatives also visited the site where a giant monument to Virgin Mary is being constructed, reports Večernji List on March 4, 2017.

The goal of the meeting was to define ways of cooperation for the development of the Cammini Lauretani project at the international level, as part of the European Cultural Itinerary of the European Council initiative.

Municipality of Primošten presented the project for construction of a large monument to Our Lady of Loreto, which is in the final stages of construction. “This project is unique in Croatia and beyond. It has been an object of considerable interest and acclaim, and a blessing has been given by the Holy See and Pope Francis”, claims the municipality.

During the meeting, the two sides positively evaluated possibilities for joint cooperation on the project which aims at promoting the idea of linking religious Marian sites located both in Italy and in Croatia, in the context of a larger development of religious tourism as a form of sustainable tourism.

The meeting ended at the Gaj hill, where guests had the opportunity to see the progress of works on the monument.

In an earlier interview, Mayor Petrina said that the monument to Virgin Mary would be 17 metres in height and would be visible from Italy in clear weather. It is expected that the monument, when completed, will become one of the largest Marian monuments in the world.
