Well-Known Croatian Entrepreneur Takes Business to Germany

''It's not because of money, I've got enough of that to last me three lifetimes.''

Even if someone thought he was leaving because he's in debt or some other similar financial problem, that isn't actually the case.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 17th of April, 2018, Željko Lasić, the owner of one of the largest electrical installation and construction companies in the entire Imotski region, has decided to pack up and leave Croatia for Germany.

"As of May the 1st this year, I'll have concluded the working relationship with the private company which I've owned in Croatia for 33 years, and I'm applying for my company in Germany on that very same date," Slobodna Dalmacija was told by Lasić, who is otherwise one of the founders of HDZ and remains an active member of the part to this day.

It seems that the classic scenario of leaving because of some hidden debt or other financial problem, it turns out that in reality, that isn't the case at all. More than a hundred people based on various construction sites throughout Croatia and indeed in Germany are currently working for his company, and the state is causing headaches with its typical infectious circle of general non-payment.

"Just so that you don't misunderstand me, I'm not off to Germany to improve my pension balance. I'm 59 years old, I've earned a good living and I have enough for another three [lives], but I want to preserve a little of my health and my dignity, if it's not already too late for that,'' he explained.
