By 23 March 2018

ZAGREB, March 23, 2018 - Swietelsky d.o.o. of Zagreb has been selected to modernise and electrify the railway line between Zaprešić and Zabok, a project worth 614.4 million kuna, of which 85% is co-financed by the EU, the HŽ Infrastruktura rail company announced on Friday.

Swietelsky d.o.o., an affiliate of the Swietelsky construction company which is based in Linz, Austria, was chosen among seven bids as the most favourable one. The construction work is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2018 and finish in the summer of 2021.

The Zaprešić-Zabok line is a 24-kilometre-long section of the regional railway between Zaprešić and Čakovec in the northwest of the country. Once completed, it is expected to cut the travel time of express trains by about 50% and of slow trains by about 30%, which will enable their inclusion in Zagreb's suburban commuter transport system.

The project includes, among other things, the reconstruction of railway stations, the construction of platforms, shelters and parking lots, the upgrade of level crossings, and the installation of public address and video surveillance systems.
