The Omiš Guitar Festival was established in 2010 and has increasingly grown in attendance since, attracting local and international interest from musicians and guitar enthusiasts alike, becoming the leading festival in South-East Europe and a must-see event for all guitar enthusiasts. This year will see the Omiš Guitar Festival in its eighth season, with an impressive line-up of talent and international guests, 2017 is set to be another record-breaking year! The festival officially runs from Wednesday 19th April to Saturday 22nd April, all events taking place at the Hotel Plaza in Omiš.
Director Neno Munitić, along with an entourage of talented professionals have created a multifaceted program, including competitive guitar categories, live performances and even the opportunity for a Master-Class with internationally acclaimed professor Dr. Thomas Offermann. The competitive categories include: Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar with Vocals, Classical Guitar and Chamber Music with Classical Guitar and take place at various times over the four days.
Every year there are unique performances by international artists and this year will not disappoint, one of the many highlights of the program will definitely be from the band “Sleepy Man”, a bluegrass band all the way from New Jersey! This band of teen brothers have played at such prestigious events as the New Orleans Jazz Festival, Newport Folk Festival and have racked-up an impressive 50 million views on their YouTube channel and 100,000 fans on Facebook. Organisers are thrilled to have them joining – if the Omiš Guitar Festival wasn't already on the world-stage, it will be now.
With incredible prizes for the competitive categories – including prize money up to €1,500 and a Master Guitar worth €5,000 it is no wonder there has been an unprecedented number of applications this year; which has pushed the organisers to kick-off the Festival one day early! Locals are invited to come down and enjoy the preliminary round for free, from 5pm at Hotel Plaza in Omiš tonight!
