As we mentioned last week, the Tourist Board of Split announced the numbers for 2016. In 2016 total, Split recorded 574,917 arrivals and 1,763,080 overnight stays, which is an increase in arrivals by 27%, and an increase in overnight stays by 31%. Most of the tourists to Split were from the UK, Germany, USA, France and Australia.  In December alone there were 11,020 arrivals and 23,496 overnight stays, which is a 19% increase in arrivals compared to 2015. After a record tourist season, the Tourist Board of Split extends their gratitude and announces plans for the future, as reported by Slobodna Dalmacija on January 9, 2017.

“Behind us is an event that lasted 43 days, with 98 musical events, animated squares, numerous events for our youngest, a number of humanitarian actions, a large number of cultural events and exhibitions, gastronomic festivals, and numerous other events which our fellow citizens and guests recognized. On behalf of all the organizers, we say thank you to all visitors of Advent in Split and everyone who participated in the creation of this event which will certainly further develop in the coming years.

Being aware of the rich cultural heritage of Split and the potential for further development of Split as a tourist destination, we continue to conduct a number of activities by putting firstly our natural and cultural heritage as well as the interest of the whole community, for which we will organize a series of trainings. This year we will devise new tourism products and projects, and communicate them to innovative on-line and off-line marketing channels.

Our goal is to increase the number of motives for the arrivals of tourists to our destination and present tourists all the benefits of our city through marketing campaigns that we have already started teaching in target markets prone to travel in the low season and first minute bookings. This year we will work to strengthen the month of September because we believe, and the results have so far have shown, that joint efforts can make Split a year-round destination.

Research conducted over the last year has revealed the specific deficiencies and untapped potential before us as the creators of tourism in the city of Split, putting a challenge to remove them and offer our guests a service at the level of the world’s leading tourist destinations.”
