As Morski writes, Karlo Tomic and Mate Spain, two Dugi Rat firefighters, have fulfilled a long-standing wish yesterday. This morning, they embarked on the biggest adventure of their lives, the goal of which was to swim the Brac channel from Postira to Dugi Rat on the mainland across the channel.

Karlo Tomic spoke about what prompted them to undertake the endeavor and how their path to their goal went to Dalmacija Danas.

”My friend, a member of the Ministry of Defense, Mate Spain and I have wanted to try this all our lives and there was an opportunity that we took advantage of. The other day we decided to finally do it, and yesterday at 8 o’clock we started our journey across the Beac channel from Postira,” Karlo stated, describing how their adventure began.

The sea wasn’t very calm and the tenacious pair of Dugi Rat firefighters struggled with the waves. but they also bravely endured that fight.

”The waves followed us part of the way, so it was quite tricky to swim because the current carried us, but later it calmed down. We swam twelve kilometres and in three and a half hours we reached our destination on the mainland, Dugi Rat,” Karlo Tomic described.

In the end, he revealed the main reason behind their decision to swim the Brac channel.

”Our motive is the long-standing problem of the people of Dugi Rat who have to live with tonnes of potentially hazardous waste being dumped in the place,” Tomic told Dalmacija Danas.
